About  my work

The two main characteristics of my work until now have been:

My social involvement: all my work deals with emancipation, specifically, with our fight for deliverance.

As a lover of poetry, I try to approach my subject in a poetic way:

it is the unconscious aspect that interests me.

The collage-technique: I love to cut. I have always loved it.

From small drawings made of minute pieces of paper to large canvases, or plywood cut-out figures.

It is the plentifulness of cutting that strikes.

Even when in 1999 I started painting directly on canvas, I kept on cutting! All my form studies are paper cut-outs.

Since 1980 I have worked in series- drawings, canvases or plywood,

as well as objects and installations. Later on photos.

What I am showing here is a selection of works of some series.

I would like to end by quoting a Portuguese artist, Almada Negreiros, who wrote: "Só o mistério chega inteiro ao fim" (Only mystery reaches the end intact).

I guess this is true for everyone's life, and even more so for an artist's life's work.

That's why, remaining on the surface, I cut this introduction short...
